The ultimate cinema experience without leaving home
An unused squash court that was previously only being used as storage space was transformed with a two tier steel construction floor giving the client an incredible Home Cinema but with the benefit of retaining ample storage space in a separate room under the front seating level. In addition to this we suggested that they could fit a gym under the rear seating level which they thought was great use of the space.
The details
When the client enters and presses a button for the hallway lights, the Crestron CNX keypad welcomes them via the built in speaker and raises the lights in the gym to show off the room as they walk past the glazed sliding doors to the stairs. These dim down again after two minutes unless a scene is selected on the gym keypad. At the top of the stairs you turn the corner and enter the back of a large scale preview theatre with two tier seating and a cinemascope screen.

Cinema Seating
Bespoke multi tier seating was installed so that everyone gets the perfect view. Comfortable and stylish with space for a beer.
Atmos
The sound in the cinema is provided by a 7.2.4 Atmos speaker setup with the LCR and dual subwoofers at the front of the screen and 4 in ceiling Atmos channels.
As the cinema is completely enclosed with no other access than the entrance from a snooker room, we were concerned that in the event of a fire elsewhere in the house there would be nothing to notify the occupiers of the danger. We linked notification from the homes smoke detectors into the control system for notification via the phone system and then installed a UPVC door behind the front left speaker with a ladder than can be dropped down the outside of the house. We installed this speaker on a custom made roll out shelf with a large handle and in the event of a fire the front of the speaker cover can be easily removed and the shelf can be pulled out.
Safety escape
We installed a 4 camera CCTV system and an entry keypad at the front door. If this is pressed it rings all of the phones but if a movie is being watched then it will be paused and the CCTV camera inside the front porch will be shown for 10 seconds before the movie is displayed again and resumed.
Guest notification
Cinemascope
The screen is in cinemascope ratio of2 .35:1 which is much wider aspect ratio than the standard 16:9 widescreen we are used to at home. We use the scaling on the Sim2 projector to stretch the image vertically to remove the black bars and then a Primsasonic anamorphic lens to stretch the image horizontally to restore the directors intended wide cinematic presentation.
Home Gym
The space beneath the cinema was not being well utlised and so we developed a home gym that fits in the space and maximises the use of the area.
