An eco friendly and future proofed home

We were brought in as part of a to project extend, update, improve and modernise a homeowner’s existing Cheshire farmhouse and the results are stunning. We have integrated lighting, audio and visual distribution, heating, ventilation, security and access control all under the simple and intuitive user interfaces of a Crestron Home control system.

The details

For this property the clients were not big tech users but wanted to make sure they were future proofing by building technology into the fabric of their home and making the most of all the technologies available. They were big proponents of making the property as eco friendly as possible and as such have included ground source heating, air source heating, air conditioning, heat recovery ventilation systems, triple glazing throughout and even rainwater harvesting and backup battery technology into the build.

This project included

  • From a dedicated cinema room with individual seating, tiered viewing platforms and a popcorn machine, to a hidden screen that descends from the ceiling to transform your lounge into something more, you can create an exclusive cinema experience in the comfort of your own home, elevating movie nights into something truly memorable.

  • Our integrated systems provide a single point of control, eliminating the need for multiple remotes, visible wiring, and reducing the amount of technology on display to maximise the aesthetics of your home. This can be accomplished through elegant wall-mounted touch screens, handheld remotes, or dedicated phone and tablet apps.

  • An intelligent lighting solution creates atmosphere, transforming ordinary rooms into extraordinary spaces. Create ambience with a single button that controls several lighting circuits, have lights slowly turn on at sunset, trigger illuminated pathways and integrate with security systems.

  • In a modern home the IP network is the backbone of most of the systems that we install, from the standard distribution of internet over wired and WiFi connections through to sophisticated Audio and Video over IP solutions. Whatever your needs, a well designed and implemented network is an important first step.

  • Energy efficiency is better for the environment and your household bills. A smart heating system will ensure that only rooms in use are heated or cooled as desired. It will even learn your heating/cooling patterns, adapting the schedule to pre-empt your needs.

  • From a simple pair of weather proof speakers through to scalable outdoor speaker systems that delivers perfectly even volume coverage and unbelievable sound quality throughout any size space using small satellite speakers and below-ground subwoofers that are hidden completely out of sight among plants and under foliage.

  • Gate entry systems where visitors can press the button that will ring touch panels in the home or your phone wherever you are in the world. The camera on the panel will allow you to see who is there and provide two way communication.

Lutron Lighting

We programmed scenes for every room for use at different times of day which are ‘bright’ ‘relaxed’ and ‘low’ and also specific scenes required for rooms such as ‘cooking’ in the kitchen or ‘shower’ in the bathrooms. We have some very clever conditional programming on all of the Lutron keypads which allows for a simple on/off button to be the only button needed in most cases as it recalls the scenes based on what time it is.

Crestron control system

For this project the client did not have any niche requirements or a demanding list of desired functionality which made the Crestron Home platform an obvious choice for control system. We also added an additional custom processor so that we could maintain a lot of the clever automations and integrations that we offer to our custom Crestron clients. For the user interfaces we installed a combination of on wall touch screens and hand-held remote controls as well as apps for all of their phones and tablets.

Pool Building

The property has a standalone pool and changing suite building which we connected to the main house via its own small rack. We expanded the home’s music systems and Wi-Fi out to the pool and allowed for control within the house so the homeowner can check the temperatures are correct and start the music before they go out.

Gate access

The system uses an entry panel at the main gate, which once pressed rings through to the Crestron touch panels and to the client’s phone. They can then have a two-way conversation with the person at the gate and if needed buzz them through.

Starlink

The internet speed provided at the property was very poor, and despite continued promises that fibre was coming to the area, that never materialised. We installed a Starlink system, which has provided a reliable and robust network connection.

Remote support

The system includes network monitoring , which gives us a complete overview of all the devices on the network and notifies us immediately when any of the designated important devices go off-line. Everything in the rack is connected to a network controllable power supply, so if we are notified that a certain Sky box has gone off-line, we can easily just reset the power to that device.
