Bringing an old system back to life

Whether it's a case of the company that originally installed your system no longer being around, or perhaps you have purchased a property with an existing system, but there are no records of who installed it or maintains it. Whatever the reason, we may be able to help.

Revisiting an old system can be daunting but we are here to help.

We have a set number of requirements that a system needs to allow us to properly support and maintain it. So whilst it is unlikely that your old system checks all of these boxes we can certainly explain what remedial actions need to be taken to allow us to support you going forwards.

We would survey the system and create a report of recommendations, which would take into account any immediate issues you have, but also explain what potential upgrades or advances are now available since the initial system was installed.

TESTIMONIALS

  • DOCUMENTATION

In an ideal world, you would have a full set of documentation for the original installation with points drawings, schematics, cable schedules and all of the equipment connection details however, we realise that more often than not this isn't the case. But don’t worry, we can create all these things for you which will make maintenance and future works a lot easier.

  • SURVEYS

Unless there is significant remodelling being done, it is likely that the one part of the installation that we don't have a choice in would be the infrastructure cabling. As such, we would look to fully test out and certify that existing cabling so we can rule out any issues before anything else is done.

  • PROGRAMMING

As with the documentation, we find that homeowners are hardly ever given the custom programming that was created for their smart home or lighting control system. Depending on the system in question, it may be possible to recover that programming from the system itself which would avoid the need to program everything again from scratch. More modern systems use cloud based storage for backups of the program, so if it is a more recent install, there is more chance that we can get hold of the program.

  • DON'T START FROM SCRATCH

Despite when you might get told it’s hardly ever a case of needing to rip everything out and start again but we will give an honest appraisal of what equipment should be kept and what would benefit from an upgrade.
