BARN rennovation - CHESHIRE

Brief

We were brought in by our partners at the Llama Group and Janey Butler Interiors, to help with the complete renovation and extension of an existing barn and ensure that the new technology being installed was one of two things: either the main focus of the area or discreetly hidden away.

The main living area was an new extension to the existing property and the focus of this was to be a 65” display and surround sound Bowers and Wilkins audio system built into a bespoke media wall.

Project Overview

We worked closely with Llama to provide seamless and sympathetic installation to their designs, suggesting a recessed TV and in-wall speakers which would also allow them to make use of the free wall space with floating shelving.

Once we had worked with the client to finalise what equipment they wanted and also make allowances for the future, we decided it would be possible to house everything in cupboards at low level in the media wall. We provided all of the sizings to ensure the wall construction was perfect to the nearest milimeter allowing us to have the front of the TV flush with the rest of the wall as well as a minimal recessed surround to allow for installation and maintenance.

A 65 inch Plasma was the main focus of the wall with 3 in wall B&W speakers. To keep costs down we used a regular B&W subwoofer and modified a frame and grille from another model to allow this to also be house in the wall, but match the rest of the grilles.

As the client did not want a full control system at this stage we used a hidden IR receiver recessed below the TV to allow the use of the standard remotes for all of the hidden equipment behind the cupboard doors.

The client had previously only had a single sky box so we upgraded the dish and aerial array to provide the extra cables necessary for two sky boxes. We then also installed an Apple TV and Blu Ray player as additional sources

We installed a Lutron grafik eye and keypads to control the lighting circuits inside as well as the external LED's by the SkyFrame corner glazing. The Sky Frame is a stunning visual feature of the new lounge extension which allows the whole corner of the Barn to be totally open and gives the feeling of indoor - outdoor living.

The use of lighting scenes incorporating both these indoor and outdoor circuits adds to the feel of this as a single space when the doors are open. We concealed LED lighting strips within the media wall shelving and all of the other lights fittings were also energy efficient LED's.

In addition to the audio and video equipment we also worked with the developer to specify the remote controlled Velux windows with rain sensors and remote controlled blinds as well as the remote controlled corner gas firebox.

Client Testimonial

"The amazing media wall in our new lounge extension is perfect for us all as a family. Intuitive Homes did a brilliant job in offering us all sorts of options for what we could have in the space and with their guidance, everything we chose has been a huge success.

The combination of the modern day technology with the lovely natural waney edged unusual wood shelving and Lutron Lighting is amazing. Everyone compliments this space and it really is the perfect focal point that makes this a stunning extension on our lovely new home. Honestly, we could never have even imaged such a media wall, and have never seen anything like it, amazing!"
